A ceiling projector is an electrical job, not only AV
Two of the three purchases here have published prices. Epson shows the Home Cinema LS11000 4K HDR Laser Projector, SKU V11HA48020, at $4,499.991, and the Pro Cinema LS12000 4K PRO-UHD Laser Projector, SKU V11HA47020MB, at an MSRP of $5,999.00 with no sale price displayed2. Silver Ticket publishes screens by diagonal and by type on its own product feed3.
The mount is the part with no price on it, and it is the part that pulls in a building department. A projector hanging from a ceiling needs a 120 volt outlet up there, and that outlet is ordinary electrical work. The 2021 IRC requires a permit from anyone who intends to alter a building, or to install, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical system4.
People often assume a home theater is exempt from all of that because it is low voltage. The exemption is narrower than the assumption. It covers electrical wiring, devices, appliances, apparatus or equipment operating at less than 25 volts and not capable of supplying more than 50 watts of energy4. Signal and control wiring, yes. The circuit feeding the projector, no.

Listed on Epson's own product page as the Home Cinema LS11000 4K HDR Laser Projector, SKU V11HA48020, with the figure shown as "Our Price"1. That wording matters when you compare it to anything quoted as MSRP, because you are not comparing the same kind of number.
Epson Pro Cinema LS12000, $5,999.00
The Pro Cinema LS12000 4K PRO-UHD Laser Projector, SKU V11HA47020MB, is published at an MSRP of $5,999.00, with no sale price displayed at the time of reading2. Pro Cinema is Epson's dealer-facing line, so how you buy it differs from a direct retail purchase.
Fixed frame screens, $549.98 up
Silver Ticket publishes the STR-169135-S, a 135 inch 16:9 fixed frame, at $549.98, the S7-169100-FLARE thin bezel 100 inch at $549.98, the 120 inch FLARE at $849.98 and the S7-169128-ECLIPSE thin bezel at $1,549.983. A fixed frame is the cheapest way to a big image.
Very large fixed screens
At the top of the fixed range, Silver Ticket lists the STR-169220-2GS at 220 inches for $1,699.98 and the STR-169220-AGS, also 220 inches, for $1,799.983. Screen size is limited by wall, not by budget, well before you reach these. Measure the wall first.
Motorised and in-ceiling screens
Silver Ticket publishes the SME-169100 wall mounted electric and the SIE-169100 in-ceiling electric at $1,049.98 each for 100 inches, then $1,299.98 at 120 inches, $1,449.98 at 135 inches and $1,699.98 at 150 inches3. An in-ceiling screen also needs a ceiling cavity and power.
The mount itself
No manufacturer price for a projector mount was verified for this guide, so treat any figure you are quoted as a quote. What is verifiable is who does it. Blocking above a ceiling is carpentry, and carpenters have a 2025 median hourly wage of $29.126. The circuit is an electrician's work at $30.387.
What does it cost?
The clearest cost driver in the whole category is fixed versus motorised at the same size. Silver Ticket publishes a 120 inch thin bezel fixed frame at $849.98 and a 120 inch electric screen at $1,299.98, same brand, same feed, same day3. The motorised mechanism is $450.00 of that difference. Pair the fixed 120 inch screen with the LS11000 at $4,499.991 and the display side of the room is $5,349.97 in published prices before anything is mounted.
There is no published installed cost, and this brief could reach only one projector manufacturer. Sony's site was unreachable, so the projector evidence rests on Epson alone, and no like-for-like comparison between a projector and a large flat panel was possible. Budget separately for the ceiling work: a wall mounted control device for lighting is required in every habitable room5, and any newly installed 120 volt, 15 and 20 amp outlets in a family, recreation or similar room need arc-fault protection8.

How to hire for a projector and screen install
Who does the work
This is usually two trades and sometimes three. The projector, screen and signal wiring are AV work. Framing a soffit or adding blocking is carpentry, at a $29.12 median hourly wage6.
What pros will ask
Throw distance from the lens to the screen wall, ceiling height, and which way the joists run, because that decides where a mount can land. Then screen diagonal and aspect ratio, whether the ceiling is finished or open, where the equipment rack will live, and how much ambient light the room gets during the hours you will actually use it.
What to check before signing
Ask in writing who pulls the permit, since the IRC puts that duty on the owner or the owner's authorised agent4. Confirm the new ceiling outlet is arc-fault protected and that the AFCI device sits in a readily accessible area8. Ask the installer to name the listing printed on any cable run inside the ceiling.

How large a screen should I buy for my room?
This guide will not give you a viewing distance rule, because no published standard was verified for it here, and the rules of thumb in circulation are repeated more often than they are sourced. What is verifiable is the range available: Silver Ticket publishes fixed frame screens from 100 inches through 220 inches3. Measure the wall, measure the distance to the seats, and ask the installer to justify their recommendation against a standard they can name.
Is the LS12000 worth the step up from the LS11000?
The published gap is $1,499.01, from $4,499.99 to $5,999.0012. Read that carefully before treating it as a like-for-like premium. Epson shows the LS11000 figure as "Our Price" and the LS12000 figure as "MSRP" with no sale price displayed12, so one is a street price and the other is a list price. Ask a dealer what the LS12000 actually transacts at before deciding the difference is real.
Should I get a projector or just a very large television?
This guide cannot answer that honestly with prices, and it will not pretend otherwise. Projector pricing here comes from Epson alone, because other manufacturer sites refused automated retrieval, and no flat panel price was obtained at all. So there is no like-for-like comparison available. What is fair to say is that the projector is only part of the projector path: you also buy a screen from $549.98 up3 and pay for a ceiling mount and a circuit that a television does not need.
