On 6 August 2026, Tempur-Pedic's own shop page listed queen mattresses from $1,999.00 for the TEMPUR-Cloud up to $10,598.00 for the TEMPUR-ActiveBreeze System, with the TEMPUR-Adapt Collection at $2,299.00 and the TEMPUR-Breeze Collection at $4,499.00 in between¹. That is a 5.3 times span inside one brand, one page, one day. Nothing about the room changed across that range. Only the mattress did.

That span is the most useful thing a shopper can hold on to, because it shows the real decision is not foam versus springs. It is which rung of a single product line you land on. Read the ladder before you read the reviews.

The second thing worth knowing is that direct-to-consumer mattress pricing is close to permanently discounted. The Saatva Classic showed $1,895 against a regular price of $2,229, a stated saving of $334, under a mid-summer sale banner that said it ended that day². Treat the regular price as the real one.

Each of these is a published price or a published rule, not an impression of what mattresses cost.

The entry tier in a premium line

TEMPUR-Cloud sat at $1,999.00 in queen on the manufacturer's own page¹. This is the floor for that brand, not the floor for the category. It buys the brand's foam and its warranty terms, and it is the reference point against which every step up should be judged.

One step up the same ladder

The TEMPUR-Adapt Collection listed at $2,299.00 in queen, $300 above the Cloud¹. A single tier inside one line is usually the cheapest meaningful upgrade available. Compare adjacent rungs before jumping to the top of the range, because the gap between rungs is rarely uniform.

Cooling as a separate tier

The TEMPUR-Breeze Collection listed at $4,499.00 in queen¹, roughly double the Adapt. Cooling technology is priced as its own tier rather than as an option on a cheaper bed. If you sleep hot, know that you are buying a tier, not an add-on.

The top of the range

The TEMPUR-ActiveBreeze System listed at $10,598.00 in queen¹. It is called a system rather than a mattress. Systems bundle a base with the sleep surface, so compare like with like before treating that number as a mattress price.

Permanent discounting

Saatva showed the Classic at $1,895 against a $2,229 regular price, a $334 saving, under a one-day sale banner². Per-size pricing was not broken out on the page. Budget against the regular price. If a sale ends today and reappears next week, it is a price, not an event.

The bed underneath it

Floyd's published product feed listed The Floyd Bed Lift Off from $1,470.00 to $3,550.00 and its Sleep System, meaning bed plus mattress, from $2,869.00 to $8,848.00³. Bundles hide the split between frame and mattress. Ask for the two prices separately before you compare bundles.

What does it cost?

Mattresses are one of the few things in a bedroom project priced openly by the maker, so you can work from real numbers. Tempur-Pedic's queen range ran $1,999.00 to $10,598.00 across four collections¹, Saatva listed the Classic at a $2,229 regular price², and Floyd's Sleep System, meaning bed plus mattress, ran $2,869.00 to $8,848.00 against $1,470.00 to $4,590.00 for its frames alone³. For a materials-only floor on a bed and mattress together, the cheapest published Floyd frame at $1,470.00 plus the cheapest published Tempur-Pedic queen at $1,999.00 comes to $3,469.00. That is arithmetic on two published prices, and it excludes delivery, assembly, tax and old mattress removal.

What no source publishes is an installed or turnkey number for setting a bed up in a finished room. If a labor step is involved, the honest reference points are wages rather than quotes. Carpenters had a median wage of $29.12 an hour in the 2025 OEWS annual estimates⁴, and electricians $30.38 an hour⁵, which matters if an adjustable base needs a receptacle it does not currently have. Those are wages paid to employees, not what a company bills you, and the gap between the two is real.

Most mattress deliveries are handled by a retailer's own crew or a contracted white-glove service, not a licensed trade. You only reach a licensed trade in two cases: a carpenter building or reinforcing a platform, at a national median wage of $29.12 an hour in the 2025 OEWS estimates⁴, or an electrician adding a receptacle for an adjustable base, at a median of $30.38 an hour⁵.

What pros will ask

Expect questions about stair turns, doorway widths, and whether the mattress can be flexed, because a foam mattress compressed for shipping behaves nothing like one delivered flat. They will ask what frame is already in the room and whether it has center support. For an adjustable base they will ask where the nearest working outlet is and whether the bed sits on an unbroken wall.

What to check before signing

Get the frame price and the mattress price written separately, even when you are buying a bundle, because Floyd's published feed shows bundles and standalone frames priced on different scales³. Confirm whether old mattress removal is included or billed. Confirm the delivery date is a date, not a window. And write down the regular price, not the sale price, so a delayed order does not quietly reprice².

Does an adjustable base need special wiring?

It needs a receptacle within reach, and in a bedroom that receptacle is governed. Under the 2023 National Electrical Code, receptacle outlets in habitable rooms must be placed so no point along the floor line of an unbroken wall is more than 6 feet from one, and any wall space 2 feet or more in width gets a receptacle⁶. If your bed wall predates that spacing or you are adding an outlet, the new work in a bedroom also requires arc-fault protection under NEC 210.12(B)⁷. That is an electrician's job, not an extension cord's.

Is a boxed foam mattress the same product as the showroom version?

That depends on the brand, and no source we could verify settles it. What is verifiable is the price structure. Tempur-Pedic published queen prices by collection on its own site¹, and Saatva published a single Classic price with no per-size breakout². When you cannot verify construction differences, compare what the manufacturer puts in writing: collection name, the size the price applies to, and the warranty terms. Anything a review site adds beyond that is not a manufacturer claim.

Do I need a permit to replace a bed or mattress?

No. Furnishing a room is not construction. The 2021 International Residential Code exempts finish work outright, listing painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work⁸. Moving furniture in sits well inside that boundary. The exemption is narrower than it sounds, though: the same section says exemption from a permit does not authorize work that violates any other provision or local ordinance⁸. Adding a circuit for an adjustable base is a different question entirely.
