Buying the set

The tall wardrobe does not fit under a code-minimum ceiling

IKEA's PAX page lists wardrobe combinations in two height families: around 79 inches and around 93 inches¹. Saint Paul requires a minimum ceiling height of 7 feet, which is 84 inches². Tacoma requires 6 feet 8 inches, which is 80 inches³. A 93 1/8 inch wardrobe stands 7 feet 9 inches tall. It does not fit under either published minimum. That conversion is ours, from two published numbers.

It gets tighter than that. A 79 1/4 inch unit under an 80 inch ceiling leaves three quarters of an inch, and you cannot tip a flat-pack carcass upright inside a room with that much clearance. It has to be built standing, or built lying down and walked up somewhere taller. Measure the ceiling at the wardrobe wall before you order anything tall.

The rest of a furniture set is a pricing problem rather than a fitting one, and the prices are public. What is not public is any turnkey figure for furnishing a bedroom. So below we add published prices together and show the arithmetic, rather than quoting a range nobody can source.

Six things to settle before you buy a set

Every figure here is a manufacturer's published price or a municipal published dimension.

Buy the pieces, not the set

Floyd published bed frames from $1,470.00 to $4,590.00⁴. Thuma published its Signature Bed collaboration at $4,995.00 to $5,495.00⁵. Matching sets bundle a decision you can make three times. Price each piece on its own before you accept a package number.

Check the wardrobe height first

PAX combinations come at roughly 79 inches and roughly 93 inches tall¹. Against a 7 foot ceiling in Saint Paul² or 6 feet 8 inches in Tacoma³, the 93 inch family is out. Confirm your own ceiling before the tall unit is on the order.

Cost per linear foot of wardrobe

The 147 5/8 inch PAX combination listed at $1,955.00, which is roughly 12.3 linear feet, so about $159 per linear foot¹. That division is ours. It covers flat-pack carcasses only, not interior fittings, doors, delivery or assembly, and it is a useful yardstick for any quote.

Storage spans more than the bed

Thuma's published feed listed the Nest Credenza from $940.00 to $4,455.00⁵. That is a 4.7 times span inside one product line. Storage is where furniture budgets quietly run away, more often than the bed is.

Extend before you replace

IKEA priced PAX add-on units separately, at $140.00 for a mid-unit and $110.00 for an end-unit¹. If your existing run accepts them, adding capacity costs a fraction of a new combination. Check compatibility before pricing a replacement.

The furniture has to leave a room

Every dwelling needs one habitable room of at least 120 square feet, other habitable rooms at least 70 square feet, and none less than 7 feet in any horizontal dimension². A 22 7/8 inch deep wardrobe run takes almost 2 feet off one of those dimensions¹.

What does it cost?

Here is a bill of materials built only from prices the makers publish. At the low end: Floyd's Bed Lift Off at $1,470.00⁴, plus the smallest PAX wardrobe combination at $575.00¹, plus Thuma's Nest Credenza at $940.00⁵, which adds to $2,985.00. At the high end, from the same three product lines: Floyd's Studio at $4,590.00⁴, plus the largest PAX corner wardrobe at $2,075.00¹, plus the Nest Credenza at $4,455.00⁵, which adds to $11,120.00. Same three categories, roughly 3.7 times apart.

Both figures are materials only. They exclude delivery, assembly, tax, interior wardrobe fittings and doors. No source we could verify publishes a turnkey or installed cost for furnishing a bedroom, and the numbers circulating under that heading come from lead-generation aggregators with no method attached. If a designer is specifying for you, the published reference is wages, not fees: interior designers had a national median of $32.31 an hour in the 2025 OEWS estimates, with the 10th percentile at $19.91 and the 90th at $54.87⁶. Nobody publishes how designers actually bill.

Who does the work

Delivery and assembly crews for flat-pack and shipped furniture, which is most of it. A carpenter if anything is built in or scribed to a wall, at a national median wage of $29.12 an hour in the 2025 OEWS estimates⁸. A designer if you want the specification done for you, at a median of $32.31 an hour for employed designers⁶.

What pros will ask

Ceiling height at the wardrobe wall, not the room average, because a 93 1/8 inch unit needs more than 7 feet 9 inches¹. Whether the carcass can be tipped upright inside the room. Doorway width, stair turns and elevator depth. Clear wall lengths, since PAX combinations come at fixed widths. And what mattress size the frame must take.

What to check before signing

Confirm whether a wardrobe price is carcass only, since IKEA prices interior fittings and doors apart from the combination¹. Confirm assembly and delivery are line items, not assumptions. Confirm the tall unit clears your measured ceiling with room to stand it up²³. And get each piece priced separately, because bundle pricing hides which piece is the expensive one⁴.

Is a matching bedroom set worth buying as a package?

Price the pieces separately first, because the spans inside a single product line are enormous. When you buy a package you inherit whichever tier the seller chose for each piece. Buying three times means you can put the money where you actually notice it, usually the bed, and take the entry tier elsewhere.
